The Solar City

Eden Novelo Construction

Pico Rivera, California

In the late sixties, during the building of the Apollo project, I realized how much money, attention to detail was given to the space capsule itself; I was studying engineering at Cal Poly Pomona, an ecology classes, at the time - apparently the engineers from NASA had turned to the seed for inspiration with unlimited mind power and resources!...the space capsule had been modeled after the seed?!.......

I wondered what would be the result if such attention to detail was given to a mass producible city? Could it not be made self-sufficient in its energy and food, work and play requirements?  Through the use of lakes and streams to capture solar energy, but also for irrigation, recreation, and aqua culture; could it not also be made exotic, alluring, captivating? The air would be fresher with more oxygen content. No pollution through the use of no-waste technology. The temperature and humidity would not vary in extremes. Through the use of eight inch fully grouted concrete block walls, grade beams, concrete basements, towers, the use of lasers, trained citizenry, etc... could it not be made invulnerable to attack?

An unconquerable community, that could take a 9.0 earthquake, the shifting of the earth's axis as well as being able to withstand major flooding. A non-polluting, air and water cleansing city that would grace the earth and allow humanity to thrive-without being a giant cancerous tumor on the earth's surface at the precipice of extinction....at $50 per sq.ft., (money that would be saved many times over because of the efficiency through which human needs can be met over present wasteful, unsustainable, polluting methods)... would it not be advisable to have approximately 60,000 sq. ft. of paradise for you, your family, and friends to enjoy. To live or to work in or both?

Sincerely,

Eden Novelo
